Interesting piece on 5 Live
Don Hutchinson told a story of how he visited Moyes at the training ground just after he re-joined us. He noticed that during dinner many of the players sat separately. He asked Moyes what was up.

Moyes said he was glad that Hutch had noticed. The team had no sense of togetherness and this is what he had to fix. The two that were a serious problem were Anderson and Haller. Their ambivalence was disrupting the whole squad. He would have got rid sooner but it took him a couple of windows.

Hutch and the other two pundits spoke very highly of both Moyes and West Ham.

I 100% agree with this. Despite his failure to date to get in a replacement for Haller, Moyes did very well to quickly shift him as his attitude stunk.

Anderson's attitude also stunk, so Moyes did well to get rid of the pair of them fairly soon into his second spell and send a signal to the squad and supporters that he will not tolerate passengers.

"I saw Haller in the West Ham store signing kid’s shirts. When he first signed. Looked totally disinterested and miserable. Knew then what he was about"

I reckon someone advised him to look at WHO, when he first joined.

When he saw that generally people on here are miserable and moan a lot , he thought 'ahhh, hon, hon, hon....I will fit right in, ere'

It's amazing it didn't work out better for him.

I don't think Moyes gets enough credit for unloading these two players.

To get rid of the two most expensive players in the club's history, both on the cheap so we lost fortunes, takes some gonads.

The fact that he got it 100% right is phenomenal.

Certain players are difficult to handle and getting the best out of them is the job of coaches, manager and team mates to a certain extent.
I don't doubt Arnautović was a difficult character but Moyes got a tune out of him for a while.

Personally I think once the rot has set in and players have decided they don't want to buy in to what the club is about then it's best that they leave.

I understand the disappointment with Yarmalenko as he just hasn't been able to make an impact in this league and is paid a lot but he clearly is friends with many of the players in the squad, must be frustrated at not getting game time (it's very hard to play well in one-off games and small cameos) but he has never caused a big issue and stayed professional. It's clear he has massive talent in his control, passing and shooting with his left foot and with his vision but lacks the pace, stamina and defensive abilities when we don't have the ball. He really doesn't have much of a right foot so he is easier to defend against.
Never getting in above Bowen in the form he is in and with the workrate he provides.

Sven, you’re right team spirit is massive.

When Soucek scored yesterday, how can another player not be happy for him?

Ps loved the Bhangra routine from Johnson when he scored and all the players got involved.
Haller would’ve just stood there and sucked his teeth.

The togetherness on the pitch looks lights years better than what it has been.
I always look for players getting excited celebrating goals scored by other players .... Fornals is great in that regard.
I particularly liked when Johnson scored at Villa and the others all got around him doing his dance from the video of him as a kid.
Could you imagine Haller or Anderson joining in with that?

Re: Interesting piece on 5 Live
I think both Anderson and Haller are decent players, just shouldn’t have been at West Ham, both came as the big signing, Anderson came across as a lazy didn’t give a fuck type but obviously had plenty of talent, Haller had the touch of Mr Billy big bollocks and couldn’t get going so looked moody (and maybe was in training) all the time.

Both have been moved on and both look to have found their form again, maybe joining clubs with something to prove gave them a different mindset and have done so, could be wrong but expect the problems they had in the PL (and West Ham) are a distant memory for them, doubt either will be back in the PL in their careers though.........

You've only got to look at the results we got, with them in the team, and the results now we've unloaded them

Yarmolenko should be next. Well done on a brace at Everton when we first bought him, and the winner against Chelsea 2 seasons ago, but 100 bags plus a week for a 5 minute cameo at the end of matches, involving an attempt on the world record for stepovers isn't value in my book

If you don’t like a laugh and giggle or posting your dance moves on TikTok then an English club is not for you…..at least we’ve moved on from ‘Budweiser’ nicknames…

Guardian report saying the importance of the team spirt Moyes has created.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/dec/28/watford-west-ham-premier-league-match-report

I think Anderson has a mental problem and Haller was just one of these people that doesn't have the personality of a team sport.

Haller was a destructive influence due to his attitude and application.

Re: Interesting piece on 5 Live
I reckon signing players that aren’t really superstars for superstar fees and wages creates a problem.

The current players view them with distrust and they view themselves as having made it. I get the feeling Anderson and Haller had unwarranted arrogance which led to their downfall.

Kind of flies on the face of the Noble chat. I thought it was well known that he creates a welcoming team environment- could it be the case only if you fit his humour and clique?

Buying players on the up with something to prove is the model that is working for Moyes.

Re: Interesting piece on 5 Live
Yeah, I suspect that Haller was let go for team harmony reasons rather than because he was shit, which he never was.

But it also shows that Moyes had five windows to identify a striker replacement.

MOYES OUT.

Moyes certainly has got a good team feeling going and you can see how they enjoy playing together.
